Happy Friday! I have been a busy mama this week, keeping my family fed and clean, my home clean, upkeep with my small home business, my pets cared for, tuning in to those I love, and then finally tuning into myself. During this time I have been thinking about how I can relate my initial experiences to my path of healing, and how that may help with clearing channels to help people open to their own path of healing and self-knowledge. When I began this path myself, my homeopathic practitioner gave me the phrase "peeling the onion". This has stuck with me for some time, and always comes up again. Although she was applying this idea to homeopathy, I can see now that it applies to many ways of natural healing. Having this concept awareness can help you understand what you need mentally to tune into and begin to open your mind to the ways of natural healing. These were the thoughts that drifted me off to sleep last night so I decided I need to begin there!
The first experience I had that opened me to a path of taking the initiative to educate and treat myself through natural means was having acne. I began experiencing it in high school, and thinking of course, oh, the usual teenage acne. After high school it seemed to be more aggressive, and looking back, I was feeling frustrated and aggressive as well in my life. Life was changing, I was involved in dramatic and unhealthy relationships, and I felt rebellious. It was not until later that I realized the direct connection of these emotions and symptoms. I spent over a year visiting a dermatologist and being given different courses of antibiotics, beginning with the "usual" prescribed medicines. Visit after visit, I went through a trial and error process of seeing which of these medicines would rid my face of these red, infected, horrible areas of breakout. I remember finally going in and bursting into tears, and the doctor prescribing "the big guns"...I felt happy, as if I had "earned" the "good" medicine....
So, after the medicine finally kicked in, my acne began to disappear. I was elated. I felt more beautiful. I didn't have to spend an hour a day on a concealing makeup process that covered my face before I went to any public place. I was happy. But within a few months, problems began to surface. Stomach issues. Complete system unbalance. Something was off. I could feel it. But I did not want to admit it because I was getting what I wanted...clear "accepted" skin. My mom worked at a health food store and was beginning to incorporate homeopathy into ways of caring for our family. Knowing the level of frustration I was at with all of this, I finally met with our local homeopathic practitioner and literally, my journey began. We began "peeling the onion"!!
Getting off the prescribed medicine was the first step, which I knew meant I would break out again. Absolutely the hardest part, because for sure the acne made me feel depressed. But there was something about the all around feeling I was getting for the first time in all this drama that JUST FELT RIGHT! The approach taken was one of questioning many things about my life, my emotional and physical health past and present, and a feeling of well roundedness I has not felt in my previous situation of addressing my issue(s). I was not told there would be an instant cure. I was asked what I thought. I was being led for the first time to ASK MYSELF and REACH WITHIN for the answers, and I was beginning to learn what that felt like! The homeopathy, as I learned more about it, was a kind of support system that could teach my body how to heal itself while I learned to hear my inner voice. It took over a year of homeopathic consultation, waves of breaking out (but each time a little less), and a lot of new found hope to get me through this time. Not only was I slowly, effectively getting to the center of the problem, I was learning about the path of healing I was taking and watching it transform other areas of my life. I was learning about homeopathy, herbs, flower essences, healing teas, and more importantly, learning to trust the quiet voice inside that guides us, our inner voice, our intuition. It did not happen overnight. Your own inner connection is unique to you in every way. I found that the people who were guiding me did not seem to mind my figuring some things out for myself, in fact, I felt ENCOURAGED to do so! I was starting to feel more in control of my feelings and emotions and less reason to find people or situations to blame things on. I was beginning to peel the onion, which I feel is a pseudonym for getting to the heart of WHO YOU REALLY ARE! The more my physical manifestation of unhappiness healed, the more I realized that I could make conscious choices to create health in my body and mind, and I began to open to apply it to all areas of my life as well as I could. I began to see that things were changing for the better, solidly.
This is why the idea of PEELING THE ONION is such a pertinent term to understand when embarking on a new level of opening yourself to natural healing...support and knowledge is inevitable if you truly open yourself to it, and peeling back the layers takes time, patience, and knowing that as you get closer to the center, you will be better for it. Your life will change when you give yourself the gift of self-awareness and love that equals a balanced, healthy existence. And by its nature, it can create the rippling effect of supporting the healing of our Earth and all its people. It may sound extreme, but planting seeds today is the only way to start growing and healing for the future!! There is hope!! I, for one, am a believer...
Cheers to you and your path of healing,
Our kids today are growing up in a intense, fast paced world. It is anything we can do to slow things down and get them in step with what they need to be in tune with. Many times kids need us to gently guide them to a place where they can be calm, focused, and get a sense of themselves in a way that they are comfortable. Every child is different, and each path for parents is different too. But, there is an intuitive link between us and our kids that is something that is only heightened when we turn to natural remedies as a means to communicate. We are taking the ball into our own hands in dealing with our familial situations, realizing that tie that binds us is a source of much healing and understanding between us.
I have referred to the energy of essential oils and the profound effect they can have. Another way to harness the positive aspects of plants' energy qualities is through flower essences. Flower essences are a gentle way to guide our mental and therefore physical health to a more balanced state. The morning dew from specific plants is harvested and captured in essence form and added to an alcohol or other base. As we administer the drops of essence, we may be transformed and calmed by the specific effects of each plant. Like essential oils, the flower essences cover much ground and have several uses. This quality is called being heterogeneous, meaning they are very diverse in their effects and can perform several different functions. Unlike synthetic chemicals, which basically have one action, heterogeneity covers much ground and therefore can be interpreted in many different ways. This is why there is so much information about the results of many natural remedies.
In my experience, the best way to approach natural remedies is to first, do your research, second, find what you are naturally drawn to, and third, approach administering the remedy with heightened awareness and paying attention to results. Trust yourself to adjust accordingly to achieve your desired results. Be patient. Let your body tune into the language of what these things are trying to say to you. After time and practice you will find your circle of remedies that speak to you and your family's needs.
Find the things that are first and foremost about your child's concerns and begin there. Lack of focus? Anxiety? Fears? Lack of confidence? Weak immune system? Begin where you feel the strongest pull and educate yourself accordingly. Consider the possibility what they need, you may need too! A great guide to flower essences is Bach Flower Essences for the Family. It is one of the best, most basic guides to open you up the the beauty of flower essences. The guide I use for essential oils is Reference Guide for Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley. It has a wealth of information that you will see me repeating here frequently because it refers to Young Living oils which is what I use. I trust them to work at a therapeutic level safely. Keep in mind always when using essential oils that they could cause skin sensitivity and test accordingly. One of the great things about natural remedies and kids is that there is so much less of a chance of adverse effects because they are working in such a gentle way. But in anything administered, always take care and caution for each specific person and their unique makeup. Paying attention to every detail is where you will find more answers to lead you on the right path.
Some examples of using flower essences for your family
I have asked a trusted friend to share some of her own personal products that concern children, more notably highly sensitive and intuitive kids. Diana Pepper from Tree Frog Farm makes her own wonderful flower essences and has specific formulas for different concerns. One of the nice things about Diana's products is she offers essences in either a brandy base or non-alcohol base of red shiso that she makes herself. Here are a few examples of her flower essence products.

Some examples of using essential oils for your family
I am going to start with some basics that we use in our home. These are oils we use most frequently by either diffusing or topical application.
Young Living Tranquil Oil Blend-essential oil blend highly regarded for their calming and relaxing properties. Eases tension and anxiety, reduces restlessness, balancing physically and emotionally. When the nighttime crazies set in, I apply this at the back of the neck or wrists for quick focus and calm, and SLEEP! Gentle enough to use anytime, anywhere. Contains lavender, cedar wood, and roman chamomile.
Young Living Thieves Oil-helps protect the body from the onset of flu and colds. Keeps the immune system strong and stable. Can be diffused or rubbed on feet at night. (Your feet have the largest pores and can get things topically into your system quickly) Contains clove, cinnamon, lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary. First sign on a sniffle, get this stuff going. Try at the beginning of the school week and at the end for immune upkeep during school. Also, Thieves Hand Spray in the purse for after school and public germs. Doesn't kill off all bacteria like hand sanitizer does.
Young Living Sacred Mountain Oil-creates a feeling of protection, empowerment and grounding. Helps to find security and sacredness within oneself. Also a great antibacterial, we used it outside the mouth when there was an infected gum inside the mouth and for new teeth coming in. Now my daughter asks for it nightly. Great on feet for when you need grounding. Contains spruce, ylang ylang, fir and cedar wood.
As I mentioned before, all of these products have multiple uses and work differently for everybody, these are only a few examples. My whole point of sharing this information is not to display all my personal knowledge...its sole purpose to empower YOU to use all the knowledge available to you to help heal you and your family. Find your inner voice that guides you to the wisdom and healing knowledge now being offered in more places than we could imagine. I only began this path because of knowing that I had the power and great people around me to keep me going on my path. This is only the tip of the iceberg, there are many avenues to explore and be enlightened by. Let your heart tell you that the healing offered through earth medicine and ancient ways are something that have been co-existing for centuries, and let the light in!! Enjoy your journey!!
Much Peace and Love,
Hello Little Light Project! My name is Bridget Andrews and I am here to offer useful information about the healing aspects of using essential oils. This is a subject dear to my heart because of the path of healing and health it has created for my family and I. There are so many wonderful things to share about this world that I am so happy to share with you all.
What is important to share with you initially is the importance of using pure, therapeutic grade essential oils, like the Young Living brand oils. There are so many essential oils out there that serve many great purposes. But what I would like to open up here is the idea that using essential oils on your body or in your home is something I liken to taking vitamins or herbs. You would want to use what is appropriate for your purposes, the best quality, and what you trust. The essential oils that you want to use for physical and spiritual therapy and healing need to be of the highest quality and frequency (more on that later) for their use to be safe and effective. Although certain oils may be quite expensive, I consider them a supplement, or medicine for that matter. The fact that it derives from a natural source, and is given great care to the growth and harvesting processes to maintain its healing qualities, is what counts here. Everything that surrounds the plants that the oils are extracted from, the air, the soil, the temperatures, all contribute to the efficacy of the oil in its finished state. When you use them on your body or diffused in the air, the properties that give you the desired effects are intact and you are receiving the full spectrum of what the plant has to offer.
Therapeutic grade essential oils contain the regenerating, oxygenating and immune defense properties of the plants. They are molecularly tiny in size so they can quickly penetrate the skin. They contain oxygen molecules that transport nutrients to lacking cells, which can create sickness for disease. By providing oxygen, essential oils work to stimulate the immune system. They are also highly antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Essential oils are a wonderful thing to bring into homes where there are growing children, for these obvious reasons!
Now a little bit about frequency, which I mentioned before. This is a big part of why we use therapeutic grade oils for healing therapy on the physical as well as spiritual plane. Frequency is a measurable rate of electrical energy that is constant between any 2 points. A biofrequency monitor can be used to measure frequency of humans and foods, which includes things like herbs and essential oils. For example, fresh produce can measure up to 15 megahertz, or MHz. Canned or processed food has 0 MHz. A good thing to keep in mind while grocery shopping! Essential oils rate between 52-320 MHz. The best way to put this idea into action is to compare with the following example; Negative thoughts lower human frequency by 10 MHz, positive thoughts raise frequency by 12 MHz! And prayer and meditation increase the measured frequency levels by 15 MHz. This is the zone that we are working in when it comes to the energy that the oils give to your body and brain.
As far as the brain goes, the compounds in essential oils called sesquiterpenes have the ability to pass the brain/blood barrier which is why oils can be used to support oxygenation of areas of the brain. This is why people have had success with the use of essential oils in the case of brain related diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Within the limbic system of the brain is a gland called the amygdala. It has been discovered that this gland plays a big role in the storing and releasing of emotional trauma. The only way to stimulate this gland is with fragrance or sense of smell. Therefore, the use of aromatherapy and essential oils are able to support the release of emotional trauma. This is where essential oils have become a treasured thing for me.
After experiencing several different losses in my life during a short period of time, it was evident to me that I was functioning at a very low frequency and my energy levels were a mess. I knew that if I wanted to dig out of this emotional hole I needed to find a way to balance out and restore my well being. I already cared for myself and my family with homeopathy and herbal remedies, but I needed to reach out further. I was introduced to essential oils around this time and I immediately felt it was a missing link to what I was needing in my circle of healing practices. I began with basic oils and oil combinations that related to family care, then on to more specific oils concerning myself and the healing that was needing to be done on a deeper level.
Through this process, I feel a big lesson that opened for me is that when we experience loss on a deep level, it is a way for us to open up to a path of deeper learning and living for ourselves. We experience life with new eyes, and that is a gift that we need to use to expand our connection with the spiritual side of our existence. Because in Spirit we are all connected, and I feel this is a huge aspect of the work of essential oils. They help us to link on to something bigger than us, and that is what brings us to a more balanced existence in this world.
I am looking forward to sharing more information about this journey this year with LLP. I know the information here is quite a bit to absorb, it was and is for me, but I feel it is of utmost importance as we travel the essential oil way. There is much to reveal and the best way to begin is with the basic details. I hope this information will light a flame of inspiration and excitement in you as it has for me, as we all travel the road to healing and our True Selves together!
Peace be with you!
